STS-79 Commander William F. Readdy (left), Pilot Terrence W. Wilcutt and Mission Specialist Jay Apt chat after the six-member flight crew arrived at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility. The astronauts' return to KSC coincides with the beginning of a three-day launch countdown that will culminate in the Sept. 16 liftoff of the Space Shuttle Atlantis on Mission STS-79. The 79th Shuttle flight will be highlighted by the fourth docking between the U.S. Shuttle and Russian Space Station Mir and the first U.S. crew exchange on the station.
