The launch of a space vehicle causes severe environmental conditions that can damage launch pads, launch vehicles, payloads, and nearby structures. The Launch Systems Testbed uses Kennedy Space Center's test and analysis capabilities to understand and predict the launch environment and to develop innovative ways to reduce the negative effects of a launch. Vibration, acoustics, and the launch exhaust plume are analyzed to increase safety, improve performance, and reduce costs for current and future launch vehicles.
