Launch Complex 17
Launch Complex 17, located on Cape Canaveral Air Station, was built in 1956 to support
the Thor intermediate range ballistic missile research and development program. When the
Thor program wound down in 1965, the complex was transferred to NASA to launch commercial,
scientific, communications and weather satellites. In 1988 the complex was chosen to be the
launch site for the Delta unmanned launch vehicle, a function it continues to perform
today.
