Hangar L, also called the Life Sciences Support Facility (LSSF), supports Life Sciences
Flight Experiments for the Space Shuttle Program and ongoing research in Controlled Ecological
Life Support System (CELSS) and plant space biology. Hangar L supports the processing of
orbiter middeck and Spacelab life science experiments. Hangar L also has accomodations and lab space
for specimen holding and handling of small mammals, aquatic animals, plants, cells, tissues,
and micro-organisms. The LSSF also contains limited areas for surgery, X-Ray, data
management, storage, synchronous ground control, and flight experiment monitoring.
Hangal L is located on Hangar Road and is the first hangar south of Industry Road. The building is a
concrete block and steel frame hangar with two-story structures connected to the north and
south sides.
