Title: STS-56 Discovery, OV-103, rises into darkness after KSC liftoff
Description:
STS-56 Discovery, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 103, is partially obscured as it
rises into the early morning darkness after liftoff from Kennedy Space
Center (KSC) Launch Complex (LC) Pad 39B at 1:29am (Eastern Daylight Time
(EDT)). OV-102's tail section, orbital maneuvring system (OMS) pods, and
space shuttle main engines (SSMEs) are lit up in the glow of the solid
rocket booster (SRB) / SSME firings. The diamond shock effect is clearly
visible at SSME nozzles. The external tank (ET) aft orbiter attachments
are also illuminated.
