Title: STS-56 MS1 Foale, in LES/LEH, floats during bailout exercises in JSC WETF
Description:
STS-56 Discovery, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 103, Mission Specialist 1 (MS1)
Michael Foale, wearing launch and entry suit (LES) and launch and entry
helmet (LEH), floats in a single person life raft during launch emergency
egress (bailout) exercises in JSC's Weightless Environment Training
Facility (WETF) Bldg 29 pool. Foale's body is covered with the life raft
tarp. His head and the space shuttle search and rescue satellite aided
tracking (SARSAT) antenna protrude above the tarp. This simulation
prepares the astronauts for the event of an emergency egress and
subsequent water landing during launch.
