Title: HST image of Pluto - the "Double Planet"
Description:
European Space Agency (ESA) Faint Object Camera (FOC) image was taken by
the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) of Pluto - the "Double Planet". This FOC
image, the first long duration HST exposure of a moving target, appears in
the upper right hand frame and shows Pluto (bright object at the center of
the frame) and Charon (fainter object in the lower left). Charon's orbit
around Pluto is indicated in the diagram at the bottom and the best
ground-based image of Pluto and Charon taken from the Canada-France-Hawaii
telescope in Hawaii appears in the upper left hand frame. Image was
released 10-04-90.
